Intellectual Property and Innovations

"Intellectual Property Right (IPR) is the product of the human intellect including creativity concepts, inventions, industrial models, trademarks, songs, literature, symbols, names, brands,....etc. Intellectual Property Rights do not differ from other property rights. They allow their owner to completely benefit from his/her product which was initially an idea that developed and crystallized. "

IPR is more important than you might imagine. In an era of Start-Ups and Entrepreneurship, it is important to protect people's ideas and innovations. It is vital to make inventors benefit largely from their hard work. There're too many working spaces sprouting up in various regions without proper regulations. #startups #innovation

Sadly, the powerful ones will benefit from such theft or trickery. The current case of "ABSA" formerly "Barclays" using a young man's song for advertisement rings a bell. Big powerful corporations creating innovation hubs and taking the innovations of young intelligent men and women, who, like the Ghanaian footballers of the 80's and 90's, are too enthusiastic about innovating to consider the legal regime governing their innovations. #innovationgonewrongUnfortunately, the government relegates such vital issues to the whims and caprices of the higher bidders. Of course, there's nothing political in it. So no one gives a hoot. Create a strong IPR that enables inventors to benefit and to become rich. Wealth is not only gotten through gold, oil and cocoa. The ideas that surround such products are also worthy of protection. #ipr4good

For this reason, we are setting up Differentiable Ghana, an NGO that will train young men and women on the procedures for entrepreneurship and innovation while creating a working space for young men and women to interact and grow their knowledge and skills.
